Drowning Suspect Subdued During Court Appearance
ROCKVILLE, Md. — A Montgomery County man awaiting trial in the drowning deaths of his three children was subdued with a stun gun during a divorce hearing.
Mark Castillo, 42, dropped his objections Monday to a divorce from the children’s mother. The decision followed an unusual divorce hearing in Rockville.
Castillo interrogated his wife, raised a series of objections, then turned to leave while the hearing was still in progress.
When three deputies tried to handcuff him, Castillo resisted and was subdued with a stun gun.
Castillo later dropped his objections and said the judge could grant the divorce, but he asked that he be allowed to give his wife, Amy, a final kiss. The request was denied.
According to police, Castillo drowned his children — 6-year-old Anthony, 4-year-old Austin and 2-year-old Athena — in March in the bathtub of their hotel room in Baltimore.
Police said Castillo told investigators he drowned the children, then tried to overdose on an over-the-counter pain reliever and stabbed himself in the neck with a steak knife.
